MyCollege Tutor is an overarching term that we use to refer to all of the direct support that you receive through Imperial International College. We offer comprehensive support in both the material and tutoring areas of learning.
We provide all encompassing, easy to follow lesson plans that prepare our students for what they are required to learn in each section of their course. These lesson plans also guide our students by directing them to where in their textbooks they can find the relevant material.
Students have access to a tutor for each of their subjects via email, telephone and sometimes video conferencing (depending on the students’ hardware). We are developing the capability to include group online video lessons as well.
We facilitate continuous assessment through each of our 18 month courses. Each subject has on average 12 assessment, the final few of which are actual past papers. Each of these assessments is marked by our tutors and comments and guidance are provided.
In this digital age we are blessed with the tools to really enrich a student’s learning experience. We have embedded images, videos and links to our course pages, we have set up forums for each of our courses, we have online interactive quizzes. All of this serves to encourage a passion for learning in our students.
We capitalise on the fact that research has shown that there are significant benefits to be derived from forums in an online learning community. Consequently, part of our online Tutor Support offering includes the presence of online forums for each of our subjects, at both Gr 10/11 and Gr 12 Levels.
We encourage our students to communicate with one another and with our tutors via these forums, as we believe that continuous and effective communication is a key to immersing oneself in a subject. The more you talk about it, the more you know and remember about it.
Although there are ample videos covering all sorts of subjects to be found on websites like Kahn Academy and YouTube (These are website that we do link to), these videos are quite “generic” in nature. We have also developed and continue to develop our own video lectures that are directly in line with the Gr 10/11 and Gr 12 syllabi. Below is an example of one of our own embedded video lectures, that speaks directly to the Gr 10/11 Maths syllabus.
